The weekend’s hot weather forecast reminds us that it’s still technically summer, and it’s perfect for what Newton has to offer this weekend.
There’s a guided walk checking out flowers. Upper Falls is having a big block party. And there’s even a fix-it clinic for those of you with broken items and no clue how to repair them.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Friday, Sept. 13
At 8 p.m., the Newton Theatre Company will perform “The Guys,” a play about two people in New York two weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, processing what happened and dealing with grief.
Saturday, Sept. 14
From 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Newton will host a Gospel Choir Workshop. You can learn some favorites like “O Happy Day” and “Love Train” while having fun and making friends. Lunch is included. Admission is $10 for FUUSN members and $15 for non-members.
Sunday, Sept. 15
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Upper Falls will have its Village Day in Pettee Square and on Chestnut Street near the Upper Falls Greenway. There wil be a petting zoo, face-painting, live music and dancing, vendors, food and more.
From 1 to 4 p.m., the Newton Pollinator Project will have its second annual Pollinator Garden Tour featuring gardens with mostly native plants in Newton Center, Newton Highlands and West Newton with a mix of public and private gardens. Pre-registration is requested.
From 1:15 to 4 p.m., the Newton Free Library will host a FIx-It Clinic and Knife Sharpening. You can reserve a time slot to go in and have something fix or have your cutlery sharpened in time for the holiday season.
