The last weekend of July looks to be quiet. There won’t be a festival with fireworks. And there are no village days. But there’s still stuff to do.

Participate in a book club. Donate blood. Go shop with neighbors at the farmers’ market. Join a chat in Lower Falls about the state of America in its 250th year. Ever been to a Winnie-the-Pooh-themed escape room? Probably not.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, July 24

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Newton Free Library will host a Winnie-the-Pooh Escape Room, in honor of the popular kids’ literature character’s 100th birthday coming up on Saturday. No registration required.

Saturday, July 25

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the city will have its Saturday Farmers’ Market at Newton North High School.

Sunday, July 26

From 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Second Church in Newton, 60 Highland St., West Newton, will host a Blood Drive by Mass General Hospital with a light breakfast in Fellowship Hall for visitors from 9 to 11:30 a.m.. Registration is required: https://bit.ly/TheSecondChurchinNewton.

From 2 to 3:30 p.m., Newtonville Books will host Guna’s Book Club with a discussion about “The Director,” a novel by Daniel Kehlmann. Admission is free. No registration required.

From 3 to 5 p.m., two local residents will host “An Uncommon Conversation on America’s 250th,” at the Lower Falls Community Center, 19 Cornell St. The event will focus on the state of civics, culture, politics, community and much more in hopes of inspiring similar conversations in homes everywhere. Admission is free.
