Summer fun continues, but with temperatures expected to be not quite as hot as last weekend.
On tap for your family and friends to enjoy are a couple of concerts. One of them is Cuban salsa, for those who like a little spice in their swing. For the teens, there’s a birthday cake taste testing at the Newton Free Library.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Friday, July 10
From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., the Newton Free Library will have a birthday-cake-flavored snacks taste testing for tweens and teens in grades 5 through 12.
From 6 to 8 p.m., The Gringo Kings, a Cuban-inspired salsa and swing band, will perform a concert at the Hyde Community Center, 90 Lincoln St., Newton Highlands. Afterwards, there will be a screening of the film “Mrs. Doubtfire,” starring the late Robin Williams as a divorced voice actor disguising himself as a nanny to spend time with his children. This 2-hour, 5-minute film is rated PG-13.
Saturday, July 11
From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the city will have its Saturday Farmers Market at Newton North High School.
At 5 p.m., the First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton will have a Chime Concert featuring chimes from the church’s historic bell, right outside the church, 1326 Washington St., West Newton. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket and picnic snacks, and after the concert guests can learn how to play bells.
Sunday, July 12
From 6 to 7:30 p.m., Newton will have its weekly summer concert, this week with the Jesse Liam Band performing a mix of original music and covers, at the Newton Centre Bowl, near 69 Tyler Terrace.
