Cupid is due in town any minute, armed with bow and arrows to spark romance for Valentine’s Day. This day is meant to celebrate your better half with showings of affection and appreciation. That can include a day or night out in Newton, and there are lots of things to do as a couple, with the whole family or solo.

And we’re in for a slight heatwave, with temperatures set for the mid-30s in the daytime Saturday and Sunday. Snow is possible on Monday for Presidents Day.

Here are seven things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Feb. 13

From 10 a.m. to noon, the Waban Library Center will host its Coffee Hour, with free coffee and tea for anyone who wants to warm up, get some work done, chat or read, at 1608 Beacon St.

From 7 to 8:30 p.m., Watch a circus performance at the Circus Complex Corporation at 86 Los Angeles St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $33.85.

Saturday, Feb. 14

From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Waban Library Center will host Valentine’s Family Game Day, featuring crafts, games, prizes and snacks. There will also be Bingo.

From 1 to 3 p.m., the Scandinavian Cultural Center will host its February film screening, “Let the River Flow,” a 2023 movie about Ester, a young teacher who hides her Sami identity to avoid being exposed to racism. More information and ticket link can be found here.

From 7:30 to 9 p.m., the Boston Chamber Symphony, playing masterworks by Schubert and Foote, will perform a concert at Grace Episcopal Church, 76 Eldredge St., led by conductor and Music Director Avlana Eisenberg with Julian Schwarz on cello. Tickets are $35 for general admission, $30 for seniors and $15 for students. Sunday, Feb. 15

From 2 to 4 p.m., West Newton Cinema will host a screening of Mary Pickford’s Sparrows (1926), with live musical accompaniment. The film is about a child named Molly at a baby farm hidden deep in a swamp who must rescue other children when their cruel master decides to dispose of one of them. Live music will be played by Bruce Vogt, a Canadian pianist and teacher who’s performed in cities across the nation and abroad. Tickets are $20.

Monday, Feb. 16

From 2 to 3 p.m., Music Mondays will host a piano concert by Newton native Constantine Finehouse, performing songs by Beethoven and Franck, at the Scandinavian Center, 206 Waltham St. The concert will be live in-person and on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81963239351; meeting ID 819 6323 9351; passcode mm2026. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Newton Cultural Council, a local council that is supported by the Mass Cultural Council and the City of Newton.
