Newton Community Pride opens applications for spring 2024 ‘Picture Us! Newton’

Newtonians, it’s time to get artistic.

Newton Community Pride is accepting design submissions for “Picture Us! Newton,” a spring citywide public art initiative aimed at creating inviting spaces to visit, admire and maybe even snap some photos.

Selfies and candid photos will be shared via NCP’s online community photo album with the hashtag #PictureUs!Newton.

“Picture Us! Newton” will involve the installation of approximately 8 “Selfie Stations” throughout Newton. Designs should foster engagement and encourage photography—either as selfies or as a backdrop—and designs must include the word “Newton” in some format.

The selfie stations will be painted on 4’ x 4’ panels, and all designs should be scalable to these dimensions.

Artists may submit applications and images to participate by March 15, 2024, and winners will be selected by a jury by April 15, 2024.

An honorarium of $500 will be given to each artist chosen age 16 and older.

“We are excited to once again highlight the talent of our local and regional artists and bring a city-wide public art initiative to the community this spring,” NCP Executive Director Blair Lesser Sullivan said. “We hope to invigorate our village centers with color and creativity and are looking forward to seeing all the photos submitted for our online album.”
