There are only a few weeks left to bask in the warm, summer sun. And the kids head back to school in just a few days.

That typically means people are out of town for one last trip of the season, and there aren’t a lot of events happening. But there are a few interesting ones. The Newton Free Library has a fun-yet-rather-disgusting educational event. The Newton Community Farm has an open house. And there’s an Asian festival at City Hall.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Saturday, Aug. 22

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the city will have its Saturday Farmers Market at Newton North High School.

From 10 a.m. to noon, the Newton Free Library will have a virtual presentation by Susie Maguire of the Netherlands, titled “Gross, Weird, Cool Science II,” which will examine gross things found in nature, like a “barfing baby” and real-world vampires. Maguire is from the Poop Museum, which focuses on exactly what the title suggests. This event is for kids ages 6 to 9, and no registration is required but space is limited to 25 people.

From 10 to 11:30 a.m., Newton Community Farm will host an Open House. There are plants and summer vegetables for sale, and the kids can check out the chickens while volunteers around the farm answer questions and give tours. Registration is requested.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Asian Fest will be held at the City Hall War Memorial Auditorium, celebrating Asian cultures with food and handmade gifts from than a dozen area vendors as well as a beer garden (for people age 21 and older)

Sunday, Aug. 23

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Scandinavian Cultural Center will host an exhibit and reception in honor of Dr. Albert R. Frederick, an artist who lived at the Scandinavian Living Center and passed away this summer. He traveled the world with his wife, Suzanne, and he took many photographs which will be on display and for sale as well.
