The tulips and peonies have hit their early growth spurt. The grass is greening. Spring is here.

And it’s a time to reflect on ways to help the planet and the environment.

Green Newton has its annual Earth Day Festival on Sunday at Newton North High School. You can learn about the many eco-minded groups in Newton as well as different ways people are stepping up to fight climate change. And there will be electric vehicles on display for you to check out.

There are also a couple of concerts, a Nordic printmaking class and a popular movie about a hedgehog.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, April 25

At 7 p.m., Listen to Swedish pianist Lana Suran play classical music at the Scandinavian Cultural Center, 206 Waltham Street. Tickets are $10 for members and $20 for non-members.

Saturday, April 26

At 3 p.m., watch Sonic 3, a 2024 film about a hedgehog saving the planet, at the Newton Free Library at 330 Homer St. This is a 109-minute film, and it is rated PG.

Sunday, April 27

From noon to 4 p.m., Green Newton will host its annual Earth Day Festival at Newton North High School, with the parking area full of vendors, information booths, games and an electric vehicle display. There will also be live music and food.

At 2 p.m., listen to accomplished Newton pianist Kate Munkyung Kim play Beethoven, Chopin, and Schubert at the Newton Free Library at 330 Homer Street.

At 3:30 p.m., learn how to create prints in a traditional Nordic style with printmaker Kristi Holohan at the Scandinavian Cultural Center at 206 Waltham Street. Recommended for ages 14 and up. Tickets are $30.
