It’s Labor Day weekend, so Newton is about to come alive again for autumn. But this weekend, as the kids get back into the swing of school and families settle in after their summer trips, Newton is quiet.

Don’t worry. There are two outdoor family events and a tour of the library if you’re itching for something to keep you occupied before the Labor Day cookouts on Monday.

Here are four things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 4

From 3 to 4:15 p.m., The Newton Free Library will host a behind-the-scenes tour of the library, including its sorting machine. This tour is intended for adults and registration is required. Space is limited.

Saturday, Sept. 5

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the city will have its Saturday Farmers’ Market at Newton North High School.

Sunday, Sept. 6

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Jackson Homestead and Museum will have a Free Museum Day, offering a chance to check out the museum and learn about local history free of charge.

From 2 to 4 p.m., at the Newton Centre Garden, next to the Newton Centre Green, Newtonville Books and Spark Newton will host “Coloring the Garden,” an event with games, kids’ activities and more.
