At a Sunday morning rally at Hammond Pond in Chestnut Hill, Gov. Maura Healey urged Massachusetts voters to support Question 6, a ballot initiative that would greatly increase funding for land and water conservation throughout the state, in the coming election.

The initiative could generate $100 million per year by using the existing sales taxes on sporting goods to improve wildlife habitat, wetlands, existing parks and family farms.

The rally was attended by leaders of major conservation organizations, including the Charles River Watershed Association, Massachusetts Audubon, the Trustees of Reservations, and the Conservation Law Foundation. The large crowd was enthusiastic with lots cheering and sign-waving, and included city and state officials.

Healey argued strongly for the initiative saying, “We want people to live healthier lives by breathing healthy air and drinking clean water. This is the way we stay safe. It’s a winner for Massachusetts.”
