Deputy secretary of state to lead China Town Hall in Newton on April 9

Next week, a U.S. State Department leader will be in Newton to talk about China.

The New England Chinese American Alliance will host a China Town Hall on Tuesday, April 9, at Newton City Hall and War Memorial.

The featured guest speaker will be U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Dr. Kurt Campbell, who will speak on a national webcast from 7 to 8 p.m. You can watch that on livestream at www.ncuscr.org/content/livestream.

From 8 to 9:30 p.m., there will be an in-person discussion featuring Sec, Campbell with remarks by Mayor Ruthanne Fuller and Min Ye, professor of international relations, Boston University, and U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss.

Other participants include Susan Chinsen, director of Boston Asian American Film Festival; Qian Ge, co-chair of the New England Chinese American Alliance; Wanli Hu, former director of the China Program Center at UMass Boston; Anping Shen, Newton School Committee member; Hua Wang, Chair,  of the National Board of Directors for United Chinese Americans; and Gary Yu, commissioner of the AAPI Commission of Massachusetts.

The discussion will be moderated by Lisong Liu, professor of history at Massachusetts College of Art.
