“These eight firefighters served our department and this city with dedication, with honor, with courage,” Mayor Ruthanne Fuller said.
Fuller then thanked all of Newton’s firefighters for working to keep the city’s residents and workers safe day after day.
“We are grateful for your dedication, for your strength, for your courage, and your willingness, when you hear the alarm, to put on that heavy turnout gear, pick up that helmet and jump on that truck heading to a call,” Fuller said. “For the rest of us, we are streaming out of those buildings as you run into the danger and you serve to keep us safe, to protect our property, to protect our lives. This is such noble a profession, and today and every day you have the gratitude of the city. You have my deep gratitude.”
