The Newton Police Department hosted a celebration of National Night Out on Tuesday, welcoming huge crowds to Capt. John Ryan Park in West Newton for an evening of fun, food and community.
Jam Sandwich provided the live music while hamburgers and hot dogs sizzled in the summer air and residents got to know their local police officers.
National Night Out started in 1984, with the first year’s event held in 400 communities across 23 states, according to the National Night Out website, and grew to include 17,000 communities nationwide.
