Newton Food Pantry hires first executive director

Newton Food Pantry is starting 2024 off under new leadership, with Newton resident Jeff Lemberg signing on to be its first executive director.

“This new position demonstrates the Board of Directors’ recognition of the tremendous growth the Newton Food Pantry has achieved in recent years and the need for a dedicated full-time staff leader to ensure the sustainability of this growth,” the organization wrote in a message announcing the hire.

Lemberg brings many years of nonprofit fundraising and leadership to the role. He served as director of development for the One Love Foundation—an organization aimed at stopping domestic violence through education—managing partnerships throughout New England.

Before that, Lemberg was executive director of Boys for the Better, which uses media literacy to guide boys in social and emotional learning. He’s also worked with low-income veterans.

With Newton Food Pantry, Lemberg will lead operations, staff and volunteers through the organization’s continuing expansion as it marks four decades of service to the community.

“Food is an anchor to so many cultures, to our shared identities, and to our connectedness to one another,” Lemberg said. “I deeply believe access to nutritious and culturally appropriate food is a human right, and I am honored to join the incredible team at the Newton Food Pantry in helping meet this essential need.”
