Political protest with silhouette protesters hands holding megaphone, banners and flags. Strike, revolution, conflict vector background
Newton’s local elections are being poisoned by a disturbing pattern of political malpractice. For consecutive cycles, a small, coordinated group of bad actors, often hidden behind anonymous emails and shadowy PACs, has deployed brazen tactics—misinformation, fear-mongering, and libelous personal attacks.
These tactics have only escalated. What began as generalized smear campaigns is now directed personally at community members, candidates, and dedicated public servants, including our teachers. For all the talk about “Newton values,” civility, and respectful dialogue, the lack of enforcement and accountability around election laws seems to have contributed to this worsening toxicity.
This calculated campaign of chaos, driven by anti-union animus, is doing severe damage to our community and to the prospects of restoring NPS. When adult collaboration is needed most to address real challenges in public education, these cowards prioritize disruption for political expediency. That’s not putting kids first.
If we believe these strident voices don’t represent the core values of our city, we must demand greater transparency, and our institutions and leaders must insist on accountability to restore integrity to our local democratic process.
