With pumpkin spice in the air and temperatures set to be around 70 degrees all weekend, autumn has officially arrived and you may want to get out and enjoy your city,

This first full weekend of autumn offers a taste of magic and whimsy, with an Icelandic fairy party on Saturday and the return of Hayfest on Sunday. And it’s all bookended by live music at Eliot Church and the Newton Centre Plaza.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 26

From 7 to 8:15 p.m., the Whiffenpoofs, a band that performs jazz, folk, pop and Broadway hits and even sang for presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, are kicking off their touring schedule at Eliot Church of Newton, 474 Center St. Tickets are $27.47 for general admission, $17.01 for students and $43.14 for priority admission.

Saturday, Sept. 27

From 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., watch the 2025 live-action remake of “Lilo and Stitch,” the Disney movie about a Hawaiian girl and her alien sidekick, at the Newton Free Library. This film is rated PG. There will be closed captions. Admission is free.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., learn about the Icelandic fairy tradition (Huldufólk) at this fairy walk at the Scandinavian Cultural Center, with fairy houses to explore and crafts to make. Dress up encouraged. There will be Icelandic music. Admission is free.

Sunday, Sept. 28

From noon to 4 p.m., enjoy a family-friendly fall activity and learn about 19th century Newton at Hayfest, with activities like apple cider pressing, candle dipping, and corn husk doll-making. This is at the Jackson Homestead and is sponsored by Historic Newton. Admission is free.

From 3 to 4 p.m., hear jazz guitar music performed by Jim & Nick at Newton Centre Plaza. Admission is free.
