It appears as if the trend of weekend rain will continue into May. Altough temperatures are expected to reach 80 degrees, so there will be warm weather to play in between rain showers. Grab what joy you can.

This weekend has a lot of music to drown out the rain. There’s folk music at City Hall, a family concert at the Jewish Community Center and e ukulele festival at the American Legion.

Here are five things to do in Newton.

Saturday, May 3

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., celebrate Taiwan at Newton Taiwan Day with this family-friendly event with performances and food at the Hyde Community Center at 90 Lincoln Street in Newton Highlands.

From noon to 5 p.m., the New England Ukulele Fest will be held at the American Legion Post 440, 295 California St., Nonantum. The event will showcase performances by the Unlikely Strummers, Watch City Ukers and Southern New Hampshire Ukulele Group. There will also be food, raffles and a workshop by ukulele player Victoria Fox. The event will support the Ukulele Kids Club, which provides ukulele-based music therapy to kids in children’s hospitals.

At 3 p.m., the Highland Glee Club will perform a concert, “Cream of American Folk,” at the War Memorial Auditorium, Newton City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Ave. The performance will feature 2025 Music Prize winner, high school senior and classical pianist Henry Tushman. Guests are asked to bring a can of soup to donate to the Newton Food Pantry.

Sunday, May 4

At 7 p.m., the New Philharmonia Orchestra will perform its 30th Season Finale Concert, celebrating three decades of Music for All in Newton, at Grace Episcopal Church, 76 Eldredge St.
