It’s often said that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. This weekend, March is flipping the script and coming in cuddly. Temperatures are expected to be in the 50s Friday and then cool down to the 30s for Saturday and Sunday, but with lots of sun.

Your city awaits. Newton has a bunch of stuff to keep you and the family entertained. Check out a free carnival at the YMCA. Listen to gospel music played on a piano. Talk about Robert Frost with a guy who actually knew him.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Feb. 28

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the West Suburban YMCA, 135 Wells Ave., will host its Winter Carnival  featuring inflatables, carnival games, basketball and snacks.

From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Allen Center, 35 Webster St., will host a concert by pianist Mark Copeland and his musical trio performing various genres of music, including gospel, soul and smooth jazz. Admission is free, but registration is requested.

Saturday, March 1

From 1 to 2 p.m.: musicians Tim Johnson (guitar) and Ebba Dankel (piano) perform a jazz re-imagining of Norwegian classical music at the Scandinavian Cultural Center, 206 Waltham St. Tickets are $20, free for members.

At 6:30 p.m.: United Parish Auburndale, 64 Hancock St., will host Don’t Forget Your Art, with various kinds of art, including live music, spoken word, and pottery, as well as empanadas. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students; proceeds to benefit community programming.

Sunday, March 2

From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Adams Street Synagogue, 168 Adams St., will host “My Memories of Robert Frost.” 93-year-old Jonathan Reichard, longtime friend of poet Robert Frost, will share his memories and insights into the life, works and spirituality of Frost and answer questions about him. The event will be in-person and on Zoom. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
