Newton is the best place to live in Massachusetts, according to a new list published by U.S. News & World Report. Brookline came in at number 2.

Brookline may want to put some aloe on that burn.

The magazine compiled a list of 250 communities nationwide, and Newton made the list at 116. To put that into perspective there are more than 19,000 cities and towns in America, and Newton is in the higher half of the top percentile. Brookline did not make the top 250 nationally.

The ranking factors things like affordability, length of commute to nearest major city, quality of schools and more.

Newton scores a 6.2 on a scale of 10 and loses points for lack of housing affordability, with a median rent of more than $2,200, a median home sale price of $1.27 million, and a median household income of $198,627.

Brookline scored a 5.8 and also lost points for lack of affordability.

For those wondering, the number 1 place to live in America, according to the publication, is Carmel, Indiana. Average rent there is under $1,500, while the median home cost is just under half a million dollars.
