Have you ever watched a silent film accompanied by live music? Would you like to?
You’re in luck. This hot and rainy weekend will feature a Buster Keaton double feature with a musician performing a live score.
And that’s not all. The weekend is bookended by country music and a blues band.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Friday, Aug. 9
From 6 to 10 p.m., The Hyde Center will host an outdoor concert by Jilly Martin and Ryan Brooks Kelly and a showing of the movie “Wonka.” Jilly Martin and Ryan Brooks Kelly have made a name for themselves in the country music scene, and their songwriting blends traditional and new styles of country.
Saturday, Aug. 10

From 12:20 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Biltmore will host Y2K Drag Brunch, showcasing Boston area drag queens along with some prizes, some swag and some mimosas.
Sunday, Aug. 11
From 1 to 3 p.m., West Newton Cinema will host a Buster Keaton 100th Anniversary event, showcasing the legendary early film star with two of his silent films, “Sherlock Jr.” and “Our Hospitality,” with musician Jeff Rapsis providing live accompaniment.
From 6 to 7:30 p.m., Newton Cultural Development will host a free summer concert performed by the Love Dogs, a Boston-based blues band, at the Newton Centre Bowl in the open space adjacent to the playground and just down the hill from the Tyler Terrace hut.
