The stress of the election season is behind us, and the stress of the holiday season has yet to arrive. This is the time for contentment and fun. Newton has both for you.

Don’t expect 75-degree weather like we’ve had this week, though. Temperatures are expected to drop to the 50s during the day all weekend. But it’s expected to be sunny, so we’ll have nice fall days again when this summer sample leaves.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Nov. 6

From 6:30 to 8 p.m., All Newton Music School at 321 Chestnut St. in West Newton, will host “Bach to Folk Duo,” with Hannah O’Brien and Kate Davidson, featuring baroque and folk music and a discussion of how they connect in today’s culture.

Saturday, Nov. 7

From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Friends of the Newton Free Library will host their annual Book Sale in the library’s Drucker Auditorium. There will be newly published titles and classics, books to buy for yourself or as holiday gifts.

From 10 to 11:30 a.m., the Waban Library Center at 1608 Beacon St. will host Family Game Day, with games, Bingo, prizes and snacks. Admission is free.

From 1 to 4 p.m., the city will host its annual Pumpkin Smash. Bring your unwanted gourds to City Hall and enjoy the many ways there are to demolish them. There will also be informational booths so you can learn all about composting. You can also bring Halloween decorations or costumes to donate. Pre-registration is recommended.

From 1 to 2:30 p.m., the Scandinavian Cultural Center will screen the film “The Bridgeplayers,” a documentary about four women who survived Auschwitz as teenagers and then moved to Sweden and began a decades-long friendship. Tickets are $10 for general public, $5 for members.
