It’s Passover, and Easter is this weekend. Lots of celebrating awaits many Newtonians, but that also means fewer public events.
But the weather is expected to be merciful, with temperatures in the low 50s (although Sunday may bring some rain), so we can all enjoy some tine outdoors after all this nasty weather we’ve been having this week.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Friday, April 3
From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., the Newton Free Library will host Board Game Club. Participants can bring games from home or use games already at the library.
Saturday, April 4
From 4 to 6 p.m., the All Newton Music School piano faculty will perform a concert, “Discovering Grieg,” featuring the works of 19th-century Nordic composer Edvard Grieg, at 321 Chestnut St. Admission is free.
From 7 to 9 p.m., The Allen Center, as part of its Cherry Street Music series, will present “A Scottish Cèilidh.” an evening of Gaelic folk music and dance led by Summer McCall and her band. Pronounced “KAY-lee,” a cèilidh is a traditional Scottish (and Irish céilí) social gathering with group dancing. Tickets are $25.
From 10 a.m. to noon, the Scandinavian Cultural Center will host a morning of Easter crafts, open to all ages and skill levels featuring Scandinavian traditions to celebrate one of the region’s most beloved holidays. Activities will include making påskris (Swedish Easter trees), dressing up as Easter witches, creating yellow candles and more.
Sunday, April 5
From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Boston Marriott Newton, 2345 Commonwealth Ave., will host its Easter Brunch overlooking the Charles River. Tickets are $80 for general admission, $25 for kids ages 6 to 12, and free for kids under 6.
