Police are investigating a Wednesday afternoon crash that killed an elderly driver on Beacon Street in Waban.

Just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the 83-year-old man (whose identity has not yet been released) was driving eastbound on Beacon Street near the Zervas Elementary School when his car crossed over the yellow lines in the middle of the roadway, and his car struck another vehicle head-on.

The other vehicle had two people in it. Those two people did not suffer life-threatening injuries, police reported in a statement Thursday.

The elderly man, who was the only one in his car, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
