It’s cold. Really, really cold.

Fortunately, there are lots of things to do in the city that don’t involve frostbite.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Jan. 19

• From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Newton Parks, Recreation and Culture is hosting an Over 55 Open House to showcase its various fitness classes and programs to people aged 55 and older.

Saturday, Jan. 20

• From 4 to 6 p.m., Newton Theatre Company will present “The Monologue Project: Neurodivergent Voices” centering around neurodivergent voices, at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
• From 6 to 9 p.m., Center Makar will host its Winter Extravaganza, a concert performed by Vasyl Popadiuk, a classically trained violinist from Kyiv, Ukraine, who will perform folk music, pop music, rock and klezmer music.
• At 8 p.m., Newton Community Chorus will present Dvorák’s “Sabat Mater,” with guest soloists and a full orchestra, led by Music Director Richard Travers, at Grace Episcopal Church. Tickets are available online or at the door.

Sunday, Jan. 21

• From 11 a.m. to noon, the Newton Free Library will host an Instrument Petting Zoo. Attendees can stop by any time within that hour to meet musicians from Bach to Rock Music School and look at and touch (and even play) a bunch of different musical instruments.
