A woman was killed after her vehicle struck a tree in Newton Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 4:30, according to a statement by the Newton Police Department, two vehicles were involved in a crash near Walnut Street and Judith Road.

One of the vehicles, driven by a 45-year-old woman (whose identity has not been publicly released), went through a fence and then hit a tree. The woman was rushed to a hospital but died from her injuries. The other person did not have any serious injuries, the police statement notes.

The crash is under investigation by local and state police and District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office.
