There’s a hurricane coming to New England this weekend–or rather, what’s left of Hurricane Lee is expected to hit the northeast on Saturday–but that doesn’t mean you can’t find family fun in town on Sunday.
Sunday
- From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Greatwer Boston Chinese Cultural Association is hosting a West Newton Block Party. The party will be held in place of the organization’s regular open house and will feature dance performances, games, prizes and more.
- Newton Community Pride is hosting a concert by the Afrika Gente Trio on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Austin Street Plaza in Newtonville. The Afrika Gente Trio plays Afro-Latin Caribbean and Jazz music, led by the award-winning musician and producer Cornell Coley. Coley, who has launched drumming therapy programs and produced a “Women in Latin Jazz” series, has toured with “Uclatino” band in Mexico and Indonesian-American group “Bodytjak.”
- If you’re hungry and in the mood for more music afterward, from 5 to 9 p.m. Moldova Restaurant on Watertown Street will have a jazz band performing.
