“You can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle three things: a rainy day, lost luggage and tangled Christmas tree lights.”—Maya Angelou
We had a very, very rainy day. And there are probably tangled Christmas lights somewhere in Newton. Thankfully, there’s a lot of holiday season joy, too.
And you can help spread that joy this weekend, as the city offers a slate of holiday season events and activities to have you and your family feeling festive as the solstice nears.
Crawl for crafts, stroll for bargains and put on your disco dancing shoes.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Saturday, Dec. 14
All day long, All Over Newton has organized a Crafts Crawl at 10 locations across the city. Each location offers crafting activities for all ages and skill levels. And in the morning, Santa will be at Knot & Purl for photos. Click here for more information.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., New Art Center will host the Newton Children’s Book Festival, featuring more than 60 children’s book authors and illustrators engaging with readers and signing books.
Sunday, Dec. 15
Starting at noon, the Nonantum Children’s Christmas Party Association will host its annual Christmas Parade, starting on West Street and ending in Coletti-Magni Park. After the parade, Kris Kringle will stop and mingle, so make sure you stick around at the park.
From noon to 4 p.m., Newton Centre will have its annual Holiday Shop & Stroll, with shoppers invited to stroll through the village and visit more than 15 participating retail stores, restaurants, and bakeries, while taking advantage of deals and giveaways along the way.
From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., the Jewish Community Center of Greater Boston will have a Dreidel Disco Party celebrating Chanukah in the Riemer-Goldstein Theater, 333 Nahanton St., featuring music, dancing, pastries and coffee, and more, and there will be donation collections for Cradles to Crayons.
