I’m writing to support Cyrus Dahmubed and Josh Krintzman as at-large candidates in Ward 4. Cyrus will bring the energy and ideas of a new generation to the council. His experience building community engagement around architecture and urban design will enable him to deliver the new homes that we need to address our housing shortage while enriching our village centers and civic life.
Josh’s strong 8-year track record on the city council speaks for itself. He has tirelessly advocated for our green spaces, parks, and playgrounds and supports housing near transit, giving more Newton citizens the opportunity to enjoy walkable, low-carbon lifestyles.
Their opponent won’t take the action we so badly need to address our housing shortage and climate crisis. In a recent interview, he denied that the principles of supply and demand apply to our housing market. The fact that adding housing does put downward pressure on prices is something well-supported both by economic theory and a strong body of empirical research.
Their opponent’s values are also out of step with Newton’s commitment to being an inclusive community. His transphobic commentary has been covered here and in the Globe. In September he said in his since-edited website that he wanted a Newton like the Mayberry of the Andy Griffith show, which featured no people of color among its cast.
Newton needs leaders who take fact-based action and who hold inclusive, forward looking values. Cyrus and Josh embody these qualities.
Please vote for Cyrus and Josh in Ward 4.
