To the Editor:

Regarding the proposed four single-family homes to be built at 600 Brookside Avenue, approved by the Land Use Committee, but permitting chartered by Randy Block, I was struck by the sentence in the article that said the homes were approved by the neighbors and they felt “the design was attractive and would fit in with the neighborhood.”

All I can say is buyer beware. The street I live on, Algonquin Road in Chestnut Hill, had a similar situation. The neighbors approved three attached townhouse units that appeared in the renderings to fit in with the Tudor-style homes on the street.

Well, what we got was three attached homes that look like they are built out of Duplo blocks with neon lighting. In my opinion and that of every other neighbor I’ve spoken with, they are the ugliest homes in the city.

I don’t know who oversees if the build is adhering to the proposed design plan, but this didn’t happen here.

One four-bedroom unit is now on the market for rent for $20K per month—seriously? So much for affordable housing in Newton.
