It’s a holiday weekend—with Easter on Sunday and Patriots Day on Monday—and that extra day includes the world’s oldest marathon. But before that, Newton has a bunch of fun stuff to do.
Make Nordic Easter decorations. Hunt for eggs. Teach your toddler to be a ninja. There’s lots of variety for the whole family.
And spring has arrived. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be sunny, with temperatures on Saturday reaching near 80 degrees.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Friday, April 18
At 2:30 p.m., Newton Free Library, 330 Homer St., invites teens to make bracelets inspired by traditional Amazigh jewelry of North Africa.
Saturday, April 19
At 10 a.m., make Nordic Easter crafts at the Scandinavian Cultural Center at 206 Waltham St. $20 for non-members, $10 for members.
At 11 a.m., the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints will host an Easter Egg Hunt and Potluck at Cabot Park, 3 Parkview Ave., Newtonville. This event is for all primary-aged (elementary school) kids, and there will be two egg hunts: one for the older group of kids and one for the younger kids. There will also be a potluck lunch, so sign up if you want to bring something.
Sunday, April 20
The Jewish Community Center of Greater Boston will host “Little Ninjas” for kids ages 3 and 4. This toddler version of American Ninja Warrior features tumbling, jumping, climbing and more.
Monday, April 21
At 7:30 p.m., West Newton Cinema will screen “Reading Lolita in Tehran,” part of the Belmont World Film’s 23rd International Film Series. The film, based on Azar Nafisi’s memoir, is a story of a literature professor who secretly has seven female students explore western literature.
