September seems to have come and gone in the blink of an eye, but it’s going out on a high note with temperatures in the low 70s and sunny skies most of this weekend.
There’s a film festival, a farmers market, a walk to raise money for neighbors in need and a block party in Newtonville.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Friday, Sept. 27
All day long (and on Saturday, too), All Over Newton has organized the third annual Newton Bakery Crawl, with bakeries throughout the villages offering sweet specials. There’s a map to guide you as you embark on a delicious day (or two) of indulgence while supporting local small businesses.
From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., All Newton Music School will have its first free Faculty Concert of the season featuring John Muratore on classical guitar, cello duos from Kelly Knox and Sara Wilkins and piano four hands with Alex Thomas and Cholong Park.
Saturday, Sept. 28
At 1 p.m. (and all weekend), West Newton Cinema, in collaboration with the Newton Nomadic Theater, is hosting a four-day film festival, “Spotlight: Newton Filmmakers,” featuring films made by local artists. On Saturday, there will be a reception with the filmmakers. Tickets are available online.
Sunday, Sept. 29
From noon to 4 p.m., Newtonville Village Day will be held along Walnut Street with more than 75 craft and vendor booths, food from area restaurants, family activities and more.
At 1 p.m., the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will have its annual “Friends of the Poor Walk” fundraiser, beginning and ending at Sacred Heart Church, 1321 Centre St. Registration is at 12:30 p.m., and the 1.5-mile walk starts at 1 p.m. and will continue around Crystal Lake. All proceeds will go to helping neighbors in need in Newton and surrounding communities with food, clothing and housing-related needs.
