It’s said that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Hopefully that lamb has thick fur, because we’re in for another cold weekend with temperatures staying below 50 degrees the whole time.

But there’s dancing, champagne and American Revolution cosplay to keep you warm while we wait for spring weather to arrive.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, March 27

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the West Suburban YMCA will host a party, “Dance for a Cause: A Dance Party to Benefit LiveStrong,” at the 276 Church St. location. The dance party will be a high-energy group exercise, and proceeds will benefit the YMCA’s LiveStrong initiative, which supports cancer survivors as they rebuild their health. Tickets are $25.

Saturday, March 28

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Historic Newton will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution with “Revolutionary Newton,” an interactive event with 18th-century reenactors talking about everyday colonial life and the brewing revolution against the British. View special 18th-century artifacts from the collection on display for the first time this decade. Shop new and exclusive merchandise. Admission is free.

Sunday, March 29

From 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Eliot Church of Newton, 474 Centre St., will host its Palm Sunday Service and Concert Celebrating Women. Siu Wai Stroshane will present a concert celebrating both real and legendary women in history and the Bible for Women’s History Month, with songs paying tribute to Amelia Earhart, Fa Mu Lan, Nannerl Mozart and Ruby Bridges. Guests will also hear the stories of Eve, Lot’s Wife, Bathsheba, and Mary Magdalene, from their point of view.

From 3 to 5 p.m., The Allen Center will host Berklee College of Music for the annual Curtain Up competition, a showcase of musical theater directed by Berklee Professor Julius P. Williams III. Tickets are $25.

From 4 to 6 p.m., the League of Women Voters of Newton will host a Champagne & Chocolate Fundraiser to benefit the organization’s High School Scholarship Program, at the home of former Mayor Ruthanne Fuller. The featured guest speaker is Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll who will talk about ways to make Massachusetts more affordable.
