“Nothing lasts forever, even cold November rain.”— Guns N’ Roses

Indeed, this November rain streak will pause for part of the weekend (yet cool). Dive into nostalgia with a Pippi Longstocking party or a movie about Smurfs. Listen to Beethoven performed at Boston College. Get some fun in before you have to start preparing that Thanksgiving meal.

Here are six things to do in Newton this weekend.

Saturday, Nov 15

From 10 a.m. to noon: The Scandinavian Cultural Center will host Pippi Longstocking appreciation party at 206 Waltham St. There will be crafts and snacks. Admission is free with a donation of new socks to give to local shelters.

From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., West Newton Cinema will host a book-signing with naturalist Sy Montgomery, author of “The True and Lucky Life of a Turtle,” and E.B. Bartels, author of “Good Grief,” to benefit the Turtle Survival Alliance. And the day starts with a turtle meet-and-greet. Tickets are $16.

From 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Newton Free Library is showing the 2025 “Smurfs” movie at the Newton Free Library at 330 Homer St. This film is rated PG and runs 92 minutes.

From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.: The New Philharmonia Orchestra will perform Beethoven’s magnificent Symphony No. 9, dedicated to all mankind to celebrate community and togetherness with chorus members from The Boston Cecilia, The Highland Glee Club and others, at Trinity Chapel at Boston College, 885 Centre St. Newton Centre. Tickets range from $10 to $40 and are available online.

Sunday, Nov 16

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: The New Art Center, 61 Washington Park, will host the Newtonville Children’s Book Fair at the New Art Center at 61 Washington Park, with numerous authors and illustrators in attendance.

From 2 to 3 p.m.: You can head to the Newton Free Library to hear Jhon Alvarado play classical guitar written by Mexican composers.
