Did you know Elvis Presley was Jewish?

On Thursday, Jan. 8–Presley’s birthday–local author, education consultant and Elvis expert Judie Magidson will be at Center Makor, 1320 Centre St., Newton Centre, to discuss the late rock legend’s Jewish roots.

As part of his Writer’s Block Live! Series, Matt Robinson (of Matt’s Meals and WBZ fame) will interview Magidson about her new book, “Elvis Presley’s Jewish Roots,” and Magidson will give a presentation on “the King,” his Jewish ancestry on his mother’s side, and how he was raised among Jewish families in Mississippi.

Magidson, who lives in West Newton, has been a teacher, counselor and education consultant for decades. But on Thursday, it’s all about her book and Elvis.

“The book is scheduled to be in two parts and is being considered for a feature film treatment,” Robinson said. “As the audience is Center Makor, we will be focusing on the Jewish elements and people in Elvis’s life, but all music and history fans are welcome.”

Guests will hear stories from Presley’s childhood—from when he was as young as 2 living in Tupelo, Miss. And it’s going to be lively, with videos, a slideshow and music accompaniment.
