Police are investigating a recent armed robbery in Newtonville involving a hatchet.

The incident happened on Saturday, just before 9:30 p.m., near Austin Street and Elmwood Park, according to a statement by the Newton Police Department. The victim, who’s also the person who called the police, had reportedly seen two people breaking into his car, which was parked on Hunter Street. The suspects ran off with multiple items, and the victim chased them and confronted them on Austin Street.

“As the victim attempted to take back their property, one suspect brandished a weapon, threatened the victim then fled the area,” the police statement reads. “The victim described the weapon as a ‘hatchet’.”

No one was injured, and no suspects have been arrested.
