Confused about what updates have been made to the Village Center Overlay District proposal? You’re not alone.

And on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m., the City Council’s Zoning and Planning Committee will hold a public hearing on the proposal, now deemed “Village Center Overlay District 3.0,” where people can learn about changes made, view proposed zoning maps and ask questions.

And you don’t even have to be there. The public hearing will be streamed online via Zoom.

The Village Center Overlay District plan involves re-zoning the city’s village centers to allow more housing, higher density housing and bigger buildings near Newton’s public transportation stations.

The plan—aimed at fostering more housing options, combatting climate change and complying with the new MBTA Communities Act, is set to be voted on by the City Council before the state’s Dec. 31, 2023, deadline.
