The approaching midterm elections are expected to be a nationwide referendum on the Trump administration. And on Saturday, the ‘No Kings’ movement returns with more rallies held across America, including one on the Newton Centre Green.
“No Kings” protests have been organized every few months since the Trump administration took over in January 2025. This one, organized by Newton Indivisible and the League of Women Voters of Newton, has a theme: protecting elections.
“When our elections are under threat, we have a collective duty to protect the vote and make sure every ballot is counted,” Newton Indivisible wrote in a statement announcing the rally.
Saturday is the first day for early voting. The rally will serve as a national mobilization for early, in-person voting, since the Department of Justice has proposed sending federal agents to “monitor” polling places on election day, which has many concerned about voter intimidation.
“It is hoped the event will also help build the foundation necessary for protecting the vote after Nov. 3 in the event Trump interferes with counting or results as many expect he will,” the announcement reads.
Attendees are encouraged to bring protest signs to show their support for the cause. And wear layers, because it’s going to be chilly.
