Three things to do in Newton this weekend

It’s been a short week, but it’s also been a busy one. Families returned from their vacations. The kids went back to school. And summer finally decided to show up.

If you’re looking for fun, Newton has you covered. Here are three family-friendly events in Newton this weekend:

Friday, Sept. 8

At 8 p.m. Friday, the Hyde Center is hosting a movie night and showing “The Amazing Maurice,” a film about a cat who launches a money scheme with a group of talking rats.

Saturday, Sept. 9

On Saturday at 2 p.m., the Hyde Center will host a Taiwan Music Festival at Hyde Playground, 90 Lincoln St. in Newton Highlands. Taiwanese American artist DJ Justin will start the festival off with “a remix of nostalgic Mando Pop and groovy beats.” Other artists include Boston You & Me Music, Jenny Fann and more.

Sunday, Sept. 10

At 3 p.m., Newton Community Pride is hosting a concert by the Nate Aronow Nextet at the Auburndale Community Library 375 Auburn St. Nate Aronow has been playing in the Boston jazz club scene for more than a decade, and his band specializes in jazz, Latin and funk fusion. Admission is free and open to the public.
