Emily O’Neil has served as New Art Center’s executive director for six years, and she’s stepping aside, citing family needs.
“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to lead the New Art Center,” O’Neil said in an announcement to the community. “Together, we’ve built an organization that truly reflects the creative spirit and inclusivity of our community. I leave confident that New Art will continue to thrive.”
Her resignation is effective Dec. 31. The Board of Governors will start a formal search for the executive director in 2026.
O’Neil took the helm at the New Art Center in 2019 and helped the nonprofit navigate an unprecedented global pandemic and subsequent economic chaos, and today the New Art Center continues to thrive in the face of more economic uncertainty.
“Emily’s energy, dedication, and enthusiasm have brought significant value to our organization, and her leadership has been transformative,” Robin Hicks, president of New Art Center’s Board of Governors, said. “She led New Art through one of the most challenging periods in its history and positioned the organization for a vibrant and sustainable future. We are profoundly grateful for her vision, dedication, and years of service. Emily’s influence will no doubt continue to shape the New Art Center’s future for many years to come.”
New Art Center Development Director Jan Taylor and Director of Operations Holly Jackson, will serve as co-directors for the rest of the fiscal year, which ends in June.
