Fall is in full swing, the colors are starting to really pop on the trees, and Newton knows how to lean into the season.

This weekend has Hayfest, an annual Historic Newton celebration at the Jackson Homestead, and mini golf at the Newton Free Library. Saturday’s round of mini golf comes with alcohol, and Sunday morning’s round comes with breakfast. And there’s a Blesing of the Animals in honor of St. Francis.

Here are seven things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Oct. 2

At 8 p.m., Newton Theatre Company will present “Parade,” a Tony-winning musical, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 96 Otis St., Newtonville. “Parade” is based on the true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish factory manager wrongly accused of the 1913 murder of Mary Phagan in Atlanta. If you can’t see it Friday night, don’t worry. There are performances on Saturday and Sunday, too, as well as next weekend. Tickets are $40.

Saturday. Oct. 3

From noon to 4 p.m., Historic Newton’s Hayfest will take over the Jackson Homestead and Museum, 527 Washington St., for a  free, family-friendly day of fall fun. There will be candle-dipping, apple-pressing, butter-churning, games and more. Admission is free.

From 6 to 9:30 p.m., the Newton Free Library will host its fifth Mini Golf Weekend. The library will be transformed into an 18-hole mini golf course Saturday for adults 21 and older, and there will be golf, catered food, desserts, beer and wine, entertainment by Elaine Woo and Friends and a silent auction. Tickets start at $40 for one and $75 for two, and can be purchased on the Friends of the Newton Free Library website.

Sunday, Oct. 4

From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., Newton Free Library Mini Golf Weekend continues, but this one is for families (so no alcohol). There will be golf, a continental breakfast, coffee and tea, treats for the kids, a silent auction and a visit with Newton Police’s lovable canine cop, Officer Leo. Tickets are $9 and can be purchased on the Friends of the Newton Free Library website.

From 10:30 a.m. to noon, Grace Episcopal Church, 76 Eldredge St., Newton Corner, will have a special outdoor service to celebrate St. Francis, including a morning prayer with a Blessing of the Animals on the front lawn. Guests can bring their pets or a photo of their pets for a blessing, and afterward, all are warmly invited to gather in fellowship over cider and donuts. Admission is free.

From 1 to 3 p.m., Spark Newton will host a concert by Boston-based singer, songwriter and keyboardist Malayna Knox, playing her original music and some covers, at the Trio Newton Courtyard on Washington Street. Mida and Fuji will have free samples and food for purchase, and there will also be sidewalk chalk art for the kids, black-out poetry and more. Admission is free.

At 4 p.m, the Allen Center, 35 Webster St., West Newton, will host a chamber concert celebrating the Price Center, the Newton organization that helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities lead thriving work and social lives. Suggested donation is $25.
