The leaves have changed colors, the air has chilled, and the pumpkins have been set out. Let autumn commence.
This weekend has a few ways to celebrate the crisp, colorful season with friends and family. The city’s annual Harvest Fair will dominated the Newton Centre Green for two days. The Allen Center will celebrate with the music of the Highland Glee Club, and you can get in a nice walk with Hadassah Northeast on Sunday.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Saturday, Oct. 18
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Newton’s Harvest Fair on the Newton Centre Green begins with a carnival for the kids. And there will be food.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m., The Allen Center will host “Harvest and the Hunt: A Musical Celebration of Autumn,” featuring the Highland Glee Club Men’s Chorus, followed by an Oktoberfest-style reception with beer and pretzels. Info and tickets are available at www.highlandgleeclub.com.
Sunday, Oct. 19
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Harvest Fair continues with live music, pumpkin decorating, carnival rides, food trucks, 100+ crafters/vendors, and more on the Newton Centre Green.
From 12:30 to 3 p.m., Hadassah Northeast will host a Walk for Women’s Health in Chestnut Hill. The goal is to help Hadassah’s work in Israel and the United States to improve women’s health through breast cancer research, heart health awareness, gender equity in medical research and advocacy for reproductive rights. Funds raised will also support the continued construction of the Gandel Rehabilitation Center and trauma-related medicine in Israel. Registration is $30 per person, free for children under 12.
From 1 to 3 p.m., West Newton Cinema, in partnership with Salem Film Fest, will host a screening of the documentary film “Remaining Native,” about a 17-year-old Native American runner named Kutoven Stevens, who must navigate his dream of becoming a collegiate athlete while remembering stories of great-grandfather’s escape from an Indian boarding school.
