Spooky season has arrived, but despite the pops of color on the trees, summer isn’t quite ready to leave the party yet. So, it’s going to be around 80 degrees all weekend.

And it’s a perfect time to get out and enjoy your community, as this weekend has a bunch of family-friendly fun social events. The Allen Center is celebrating a new season and a breathtaking piano arrival. The library is hosting mini golf. And Newtonville is throwing a big block party.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Oct. 3

At 7 p.m., The Allen Center will kick off its 13th season with “Taste of the Season,” an evening that indulges all the senses with vignette performances by several of the artists represented during the year, a revealing of mixed-media works by Laura Scheuerell and variety of food and beverages. Tickets are available online.

Saturday, Oct. 4

American Legion Nonantum Post 440, at 295 California St. The event will celebrate Newton’s vibrant environmental community and honor three leaders with the 2025 Louise Bruyn Environmental Leadership Awards. Tickets are available online.

From 6 to 9:30 p.m., the Newton Free Library will host mini golf for adults only, with beer and wine, food, entertainment and a silent auction. Tickets are at $40 per person or $75 per couple.

Sunday, Oct. 5

From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., play 18-hole mini golf at the Newton Free Library and enjoy breakfast treats, popcorn and Cabot’s ice cream with your kids. There will be two tee times and a silent auction for gift cards from local businesses. This event is all ages. Tickets are $8 per person.

From noon to 4 p.m., Newtonville will have its annual Village Day along Walnut Street. There will be live music, games, train rides, 75 vendor booths, lots of food and a chance to mingle and celebrate the village with neighbors and the community.

At 3 p.m., The Allen Center will celebrate having a nine-foot Steinway Concert Piano on loan for a year in partnership with M. Steinert & Sons. Artists Max Levinson and Karen Walwyn will present works for piano, followed by a champagne reception. Tickets are available online.
