We’re in for another cool, rainy weekend, which gives the plants plenty to drink and gives you time to reflect. Use music to reflect on how to be a kinder person. Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, April 11

From 12:30 to 4 p.m., West Newton Cinema will host “Behind the Screen: Secret Mall Apartment,” a screening of the 2024 documentary about eight young Rhode Islanders who created a secret apartment inside the Providence Place Mall and lived in it for four years.

Saturday. April 12

From 11:30 to 2 p.m., Grace Episcopal Church will host its Spring Magic Show, featuring acts from nine different magicians, at 76 Eldridge St.

At 1 p.m., watch Tove’s Room, a 2023 film about a Danish woman in the 1960s in a tumultuous marriage and her relationship with the new young writer at her husband’s magazine, at the Scandinavian Cultural Center, 206 Waltham Street. This is a 73-minute film in Danish with English subtitles. Tickets are $5 for members and $10 for non-members.

From 4 to 5 p.m., Cappella Clausura will perform a concert, “Visions for a Kinder World,” examining how we should live our lives to be good people, with music by Mattia Maurée, Dorothy Hindman, Linda Chase and others. Proceeds will be split with The Second Step of Newton, which provides support and advocacy for victims of domestic violence.

From 4 to 5:30 p.m., All Newton Music School will present “Voices of a Generation,” a concert performed by singer Leslie River alongside ANMS faculty Ross Petot on piano, Ian Aaberg on guitar and Aaron Robertson on drums.
