“Beware the Ides of March.” — William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

The only thing you have to beware of in Newton this Ides of March is perhaps a little rain and an obscene joke from a Colonial reenactor. The last weekend of winter is giving a taste of spring, with temperatures expected to climb to 60 degrees and rain expected Sunday night and Monday.

And it’s a weekend full of fun. Start off with Trivia Night to benefit the schools. Get tipsy with some naughty Colonial-era reenactors. Celebrate the colors of spring with Holi at City Hall.

Here are five things to to in Newton this weekend.

Friday, March 14

From 7 to 10:30 p.m., the Newton Schools Foundation and Games with James will host Trivia Night at the American Legion Post 440, 295 California St., Nonantum. There will be Buff’s Pub Wings, pizza, desserts from local pastry chefs and a cash bar. This event is for adults only.

Saturday, March 15

From noon to 1 p.m., Newton will celebrate Holi, the Indian Festival of Colors, at Newton City Hall. This event is free and open to the public. Participants are asked to bring protective eyewear and a towel, since part of the celebration involves throwing colorful paints around.

From 2 to 5 p.m., the Newton Art Association will host a free reception and art sale at the Betty Meyer Gallery at the United Parish of Auburndale, 64 Hancock St, Auburndale.  Featured artists will include Liz Bell, Ann Cook, Katie Cornog, Elliott Cutler, Don Falkenstein, Fran Freshman, Teri Gambardella, Amy Hourihan, Barbara Kremer, Stuart Murphy, Mary Remilliong, Katalin Spang, Norris Strawbridge and Peter Ziegler. The exhibition will run through March 28. The Betty Meyer Gallery is generally open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

From 7 to 9 p.m., Historic Newton will host “Naughty Newton at Night: Revolution After Hours,” a cocktail party with guided tours of exhibits and Colonial-era re-enactors discussing alcohol production and consumption, card games and gambling, and historical undergarments of 18th century New England. This event is for adults only. Costumes are welcome but not required.

Sunday, March 16

From noon to 6 p.m., Suzuki School of Newton will have a six-hour Play-a-Thon at The Shops at Chestnut Hill. The musical marathon will feature Suzuki School students and instructors as well as a chance to donate to the school’s scholarship fund.
