It’s Valentine’s Day, and there are plenty of activities to do with a significant other (or with friends, or alone) while the temperatures plunge into the 20s to add a little bite to your romantic weekend.
From a lunch concert to an evening out to see a rom-com, Cupid has your back. And there’s a pickleball tournament at the end to help you burn off the Valentine’s chocolate.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Friday, Feb. 14
From 11 a.m. to noon, All Newton Music School, 321 Chestnut St., will have a special Valentine’s Day Con Brio Luncheon Club Concert, featuring violist Scott Woolweaver and others playing the music of Mel Bonis and Hans Sitt. Tickets are $35; includes lunch.
From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., West Newton Cinema will host “Gen X Movie Club: Singles,” featuring the 1992 romantic comedy, “Singles,” starring Bridget Fonda and Matt Dillon, about relationships and dating in Grunge-era America.
Saturday, Feb. 15
From 10 to 11 a.m., the Scandinavian Cultural Center will host “Nordic Kids: Birch and Birds,” an interactive event for kids of all ages focused on birch trees and their importance in Nordic culture.
From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., West Newton Cinema will host a screening of “Jimmy Tingle The ‘Radical’ Middle — Why Would A Comedian Run For Office?” Comedian Jimmy Tingle chronicles his fascinating transition from life as a seasoned comedian to a desire to enter into politics, and applies his distinctive Boston brand of humor to solve some of America’s most complex problems.
Sunday, Feb. 16
From 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., the Jewish Community Center of Greater Boston will host a Double Elimination Pickleball Tournament, divided into two divisions: Advanced Beginner (2.0 to 2.75) and Intermediate (3.0 and up).
