October is more than halfway over, but summer looks to make a bit of a comeback this weekend, with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s just in time for the Harvest Fair.

In addition to the annual Harvest Fair, there’s a play, a walk in the woods and a film about a guy who ran for governor.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Oct. 18

From 7:30 to 9 a.m., West Newton Cinema will screen the film “The ‘Radical’ Middle,” chronicling comedian Jimmy Tingle’s 2018 run for Massachusetts governor and touching on the comedy and absurdity of today’s electoral politics.

Saturday, Oct. 19

From 10 a.m. to noon, the Scandinavian Cultural Center will host a Foraging Excursion. Local foraging expert Diana Burnell will lead a walk in the woods to identify mushrooms and other local wild edibles, discuss sustainable harvesting and local laws and collect specimens to study.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Newton Cultural Development will host the first day of its Harvest Fair with a Kiddie Carnival. There will be games, food, arts and crafts and more.

At 7:30 p.m., Sullivan Rep will perform “Blithe Spirit,” a classic British play about a novelist and his wife who host a seance with friends.

Sunday, Oct. 20

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Newton Cultural Development will host the second day of the Harvest Fair. This day will feature live music, food trucks, vendors and more.
