March has already brought a bunch of rain, and the next few days are expected to have more of the same. But there’s always something to do in Newton, and at least there’s no snow to deal with.
This weekend, the villages are alive with the sound of music. Classical, jazz, Celtic and more. And after months of everyone yelling at each other, a little harmony can do the ears good.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Saturday, March 9
- From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Newton All Music School will host “La muse et le poète,” performed by violinist Lucia Lin, cellist Owen Young and pianist Sayuri Miyamoto.
- From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Cherry Street Music will present “Americana: A Celtic Soiree” at the Allen Center. The event will feature Irish music performed by Matt and Shannon Heaton with guest Joey Abarta on bagpipes.
Sunday, March 10
- At 1 p.m., West Newton Cinema will host “Women in World Jazz Concert” to benefit the West Newton Cinema Foundation. Tickets are $20.
- From 2 to 3 p.m., the Newton Singers Community Chorus will host their Spring Concert at Elevation Chapel, 150 Lowell Ave. The concert is free, but donations are accepted.
- At 3 p.m., the Allen Center will host the Pro Arte Wind Quintet for a performance of the music of Coleman, Nielsen and Sowash.
