Five things to do in Newton this weekend

The first weekend of 2024 is set to bring cold and a little snow. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying your city.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend:

Friday, Jan. 5

From 5:45 to 8 p.m., the Newton North and Newton South Gymnastics Teams will host Parents’ Night Out, for kids ages 4 to 10. Parents can drop their kids off and go enjoy a night out in the city, or a night at home. Attendance is $30 per kid ($20 if siblings) and can be paid at the door. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Temple Emanuel will host a Teen Shabbat Dinner for kids in grades 6 through 8, celebrating Shabbat with food, fun friends. There will be rice bowls with meat and vegetarian options.

Saturday, Jan. 6

From 10:30 a.m. to noon, the Waban Library will host Family Game Day, featuring games, snacks, puzzles and crafts.

Sunday, Jan. 7

At 11:30 a.m., the First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton will host a presentation on racial justice.

From 1 to 3 p.m., the Jewish Community Center of Greater Boston will host Show Stoppers presenting “Come Alive–A Broadway Showcase4,” for kids in grades 5 through 9. Kids will learn the fundamentals of cabaret production including acting, singing, choreography and more.
