Orchestra Without Borders, under the baton of Conductor and Artistic Director Luca Antonucci, will present
Variaciones: Music from Argentina and Brazil
on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 7:30 PM
at the First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton.
The concert will benefit Communities Without Borders (CWB), a
Newtonbased 501(c)(3) that has supported education for orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia since 1999.
The evening celebrates the traditional rhythms of
Argentina and Brazil, pairing music by Heitor VillaLobos
and Alberto Williams with the electricity of Grooversity
Percussion, led by Berkleetrained, Bahiaborn
percussionist Marcus Santos. The program also explores
the legacy of Brazilian composer Chiquinha Gonzaga.
We also welcome soprano Hannah Shanefield as featured
soloist on VillaLobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5. Proceeds
go directly to support CWB’s work in Zambia. Founded in
1999 by Dr. Richard Bail, CWB has supported more than
9,000 Zambian learners through school fees, uniforms,
books, daily meals, teacher training, and health programs.
