Red Flag City performs on a porch in Auburndale during Newton Porchfest on June 6, 2026. Photon by Bryan McGonigle

This weekend, the villages were alive with the sound of music. Lots and lots of music.

Porchfest on Saturday was a huge success, with gorgeous sunny weather bringing audiences to every participating porch in Auburndale, West Newton, Waban and Lower Falls.

Porchfest is sponsored by Spark Newton in collaboration with the city as part of the Linda Plaut Festival of the Arts.

Saturday’s music ranged from bagpipes to acid rock, with classics and even some original songs echoing through the western part of the city from noon to around 6 p.m.

“I mean, what a great thing, really,” singer Sean Smith said between sets in a front yard on Prince Street. “It just really is. And I don’t say that just because I’m performing it or anything like that, but this is what music is really all about. Sometimes it’s just sharing in really nice, cozy places or beautiful yards.”

Check out these videos from a few of the performances.
