The City Council passed a resolution honoring the memory of former Alderman Michael Malec, who died on March 31 at the age of 85.
Malec served on the Board of Aldermen (which would become the City Council in 2016) from 1980 to 1986, representing Ward 5, and served as president of that body from 1985 to 1986.
Councilor Lisle Baker, council president emeritus, read a proclamation Monday night listing some of Malec’s contributions to the city.
Malec, Baker read, “earned a reputation as a gracious colleague whose thoughtful input was often insightful and was always welcome.”
In addition to public servant, Malec was a professor at Boston College from 1969 to 2018.
Malec leaves his wife, Myrna, and his two sons, Timothy and Thomas, as well as four grandchildren.
Calling hours were Monday. A Mass of Christian burial is planned for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 1317 Centre St.
